Background : Oriental medical clinic in the Korean military began 20 years ago. However, it still has basic treatment system only. Joint treatment with western medicine remains within the extension of a physical therapy. Furthermore, there are very few studies on oriental medical clinic in the military. This study purposed to survey the patient¡¯s features, satisfaction and desire on oriental medical clinic and joint treatment.
Method : The data were collected from 100 patients of 4 oriental medical clinics through self-developed structured questionnaire from September to November in 2010. The collected data were analyzed by SPSSWIN(ver. 12)
Result : (1). The patient¡¯s disease pattern(syptom, diagnosis) was most of the musculo-skeletal system disorder(81%). Furthermore the patient¡¯s percentage of chronic disease was higher than that of acute disease. (2). The patient¡¯s satisfaction on the oriental medical clinic was high quaility(93%) and 46% of the respondents were cured with cooperative treatment. 82.6% of the patients treated by cooperative treatment were satisfied with joint treatments.
(3). The patient¡¯s desire for new oriental medical treatment were the Sasang constitutional diagnosis(34.96%), Chuna manual medicine(23.77%), herb medicine(23. 0.7), and herb-acupuncture treatment(18.18%). Additionally 85% of the respondents showed a positive response about introduction of a herb medical system in the military.
Conclusion : These results imply that oriental medical clinic in the military should consider supplement of additional treatment for chronic musculo-skeletal disease. And nearly half of the oriental medical clinic¡¯s patient take a cooperative treatment with western medicine. The understanding and trust between western medicine and oriental medicine need to be an efficient cooperative treatment. More conferences and thesis on a cooperative treatment should be considered. Though military patients wanted to take various oriental medical treatments, they took only a basic treatment. Oriental military doctors have to make an effort to compensate facilities and surroundings that they can conduct their special treatment skill. As a result of efforts, quality of oriental treatment should be developed.
